Human Rights Observer Training

What is this program?

The Amnesty Human Rights Observer team are deployed at events, with the aims to:

  1. reduce the potential for human rights abuses to occur and;
  2. collect evidence should any such abuses occur so that perpetrators can be held accountable.

Your time commitment:

  • Training & Briefing: Tuesday 14 August (TBC) - 6.15pm - 8.15pm
  • On the day: Wednesday 15 August - 7:30am - 12pm

Details of HRO training:

Staff and activists will receive HRO training and a legal briefing prior to deployment.

Time: Your participation on the day will be from approximately from 8am - 12pm

AIA has been approached by Defend the Right to Protest (an umbrella group that includes: 350.org, FIRE (Fighting in Resistance Equally), the Knitting Nannas Against Gas and others - all are committed to the principle of non-violence), for their event to repeal the latest regulations that have been put into the NSW anti-protest laws.

AIA will notify the NSW Police in advance of the events that AIA will be deploying Human Rights Observer teams and all participants will be supported by staff on the day.
